Timeline: From Humble Beginnings to Major Expansions
Our company began in 1969 as Carolina Galvanizing in the town of Aberdeen, NC. Since then, we have grown from one location to ten and from 40 to 400 employees.
We created South Atlantic Galvanized Steel in 1971 under Carolina Galvanizing.
Our passion for quality enabled us to begin to expand throughout the 80s. In 1986, we acquired our Claxton, Georgia plant, followed by acquiring our Travelers Rest, South Carolina plant in 1987.
Carolina Galvanizing became Southern States Galvanizing in 1991. In January 1997 the Chattanooga galvanizing plant was acquired and in November the Graham, NC became the site of a new South Atlantic galvanizing plant. Southern States Galvanizing became South Atlantic LLC at the end of 1997.
Southern Grounding Products was established in 1998 under South Atlantic LLC.
Our tireless dedication to creating a quality product with unequaled customer service enabled us to expand throughout the 2000s.
In 2006, we established South Atlantic Reinforcing under South Atlantic LLC. The following year, we created South Atlantic Masonry Products under South Atlantic LLC.
Growth continued through the 2000s with the following milestones:
- 2007: Acquired our Ashland, Virginia galvanizing plant
- 2009: Opened the Tennessee manufacturing plant – housing our Grounding and Masonry divisions
- 2012: Opened our Mulberry, Florida plant
- 2016: Opened our Shannon, Mississippi plant
- 2018: Acquired our Zachary, Louisiana plant
- 2019: Opened our Laurens, South Carolina plant
Dedication to Technological Advancements
We are innovators. It’s one of the many qualities that set us apart from our competition. One of our major developments was perfecting the Air-wiping process.
We now have nine coating facilities in eight Southeastern states as well as a centralized manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
